Chicago-based photographer Brian Ulrich has seen his stock rise dramatically over the past several years for his smart and detached photographic examinations of American retail and consumer culture. Neither as caustic as Martin Parr's sassy snaps, nor as clinical as the neo-objective trendsters who currently dominate the gallery scene and market, Ulrich's large format scenes have an almost 19th-century sense of carefully observed realism.


THE MAN SHOW - 3 WAYS
Erik Schneider, CPA will be presenting a talk on his latest curatorial effort "The Man Show". He will be looking at the show from 3 angles: CONCEPT: Mr. Schneider will discuss the underlying ideas behind the works in the show as well as commenting on the curatorial process for the exhibit.TECHNIQUE: A discussion of the various photographic techniques at work in the exhibit will be explored as the show is an excellent survey of many of the practices being employed today.MARKET: Finally, the show will be explored from a market standpoint including discussion of what makes art investment quality and how art is priced.

Artist Statement
There are moments in nature and in great paintings that are inexplicably beautiful. The way that Bonnard paints a foot can change the way everything else looks. Each of these paintings is inspired by moments like these. They grow from a particular instance into what, I hope, is a broader experience.

I strive for a union in which neither the painter nor the paint overwhelms the other. I have the sense of a canvas fitting around its subject. Sometimes, intimacy and distance, or density and dissolution occur at the same time. Things pass by and can leave an impression that lingers.
